Waterford Crystal – Twelve Days of Christmas Collection

Waterford Crystal is Ireland’s most famous crystal maker and one of the world’s most loved crystal brands. As a consequence limited edition ranges from the company are highly sought after and treasured pieces. 2010 marks the conclusion of the popular Twelve Days of Christmas series, a limited edition collection of bells and flutes from world renowned crystal maker Waterford Crystal.

The 12 Days of Christmas are for your information the festive days beginning on Christmas Day and ending on the 5th January and immortalized in the famous Christmas carol, The Twelve Days of Christmas.

As per the Famous Christmas Carol:

“On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me:
12 Drummers Drumming
Eleven Pipers Piping
Ten Lords a Leaping
Nine Ladies Dancing
Eight Maids a Milking
Seven Swans a Swimming
Six Geese a Laying
Five Golden Rings
Four Calling Birds
Three French Hens
Two Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree”

The 12 Days of Christmas ornament series was first introduced in 1982 when one ornament was released every year for twelve years. Then in 2005, Waterford Crystal decided to release a new series of collectible bells and flutes.  Each subsequent year they have released two editions of the Bell and Flutes, with 2010 marking the completion of the series with the release of the 11th and 12th editions. All twelve editions of the bells and flutes will be available until mid 2011, after which this limited edition series will no longer be available.

Each edition of the collection features a different Waterford crystal pattern, starting with the

  • Clare pattern – Partridge in a Pear Tree
  • Alana pattern – Two Turtle Doves
  • Araglin pattern – Three French Hens
  • Powerscourt pattern – Four Calling Birds
  • Maureen pattern – Five Gold Rings
  • Rosslare pattern – Six Geese A Laying
  • Kenmare pattern – Seven Swans a Swimming
  • Tramore pattern – Eight Maids A Milking
  • Eileen pattern – Nine Ladies Dancing
  • Glenmore pattern – Ten Lords A Leaping
  • Colleen pattern – Eleven Pipers Piping

Each flute is etched with the pattern of the days carol and also comes with a silver-plated charm, while each bell features a jeweled and silver-plated clapper. Each flute or bell comes presented in a special red gift-box with a keepsake booklet. I think they make ideal gifts and while it would be lovely to own the full set, they also make lovely gifts on their own.  So pick your favourite pattern or even favourite day from the 12 days of christmas, whatever means something to you or the person it is for. Look no further for the perfect Christmas gift!
